Short History of Aceh Province

       According to historical records, Aceh is the first point of arrival of Islam in Indonesia and as the onset of the first Islamic kingdom in Indonesia, namely Peureulak and Pasai. Kingdoms built by Sultan Ali Mughayatsyah with its capital in Bandar Aceh Darussalam is slowly expanding its area covering a large part of East and West coasts of Sumatra to the Semenanjung Malaka. The presence of this area grew stronger with the establishment of the Sultanate of Aceh that unite all the small kingdoms that are in the area.

      Sultanate of Aceh reached its peak at the beginning of the 17th century, during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda. Aceh sultanate government led by Sultan Iskandar Muda during the years 1607-1636 resulted in the development of Aceh province :
1. control the entire country and around the Selat Malaka.
2. beat Johor so that no can no longer be colonise by Belanda and Portuguese.
3. Portuguese defeated and conquered Malaka.
4. beat lands on the east side of Malaya, as far as adverse trade Aceh and reach the victory of enemies such as Pahang and Petani.
5. raise the selling price of crops for export by way of concentrating the ocean port.

Sultan Iskandar Muda played a major role in built the region of Aceh
       On March 26, 1873, when the Dutch declared war on the Sultan of Aceh. The challenge called 'Perang Sabil' lasted for 30 years by swallowing the victim to force the last sultanate Aceh, Twk. Muhammad David to recognize the sovereignty of the Dutch. Aceh region was officially incorporated administratively into the Hindia Timur Belanda (Nederlansch Oost-Indie) in the form of provinces since 1937 turned into residency to Dutch colonial rule in Indonesia ended. Revolt against Dutch colonialism still lasts up to areas in Aceh.

Baiturrahmah legendary Great Mosque, is one of the most important defense line in Aceh when Sabil War Accident.
         At the end of 1949 the Residency Aceh expelled from North Sumatra, and subsequently upgraded to the Province. Tengku Muhammad Daud Beureueh previously as Military Governor of Aceh, Langkat and Tanah Karo was appointed Governor of the Province. So since the date of May 26, 1959 Region Level I or Aceh province was given the status of "Daerah Istimewa" called Daerah Istimewa Aceh. With the title, Aceh has the rights of broad autonomy in religion, culture and education. This status was confirmed by Undang-Undang No. 18 of 1965.
